Espoo has been chosen as the host city, where the Metro Arena and the Tapiola Ice Rink offer an excellent setting for organizing the World Championships in the sport. The patron of the event is the President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö.

After a six-year hiatus, Finland will host the World Ringette Championships, when both the women’s and youth Ringette World Championships will be held under the same roof at the Espoo Metro Arena. The President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö has promised to be the patron of the World Cup.

“The President of the Republic being the patron of the World Championships is a great tribute to the ringette community, which further emphasizes the importance of the long-awaited event,” says Markku Koli, President of the Finnish Ringette Association.

The Finnish Ringette Association is expecting sold-out stands for both women’s and youth finals. The Finnish U21 youth national team will challenge Canada, which has won the previous three championships, while the Finnish women are already chasing their historic tenth World Championship. From the previous seven WRC, the Finnish women’s team have returned the gold medals around their necks.

“Those who have seen Finland’s top level being played know that there is a dazzling sports experience ahead. We want to offer this opportunity to the entire Finnish sports nation. By hosting the largest ringette event ever, we show our appreciation for the unique achievements of our top players,” Koli sums up.

A major sporting event will also bring together the future ringette stars as in addition to the World Championships tournament, an international junior tournament will be held in Espoo, organized by Kiekko-Espoo. The junior tournament will be played at the Tapiola and Matinkylä ice rinks at end of the week.
